Volunteer at Summer BLAST!

There are many ways you can serve before, during, or after the event!

  • Counselors: entering junior year in high school or older, counselors lead a group of 10-15 children throughout the day at camp keeping the group on schedule, maintaining order, leading small group times, and getting to know campers. Ideally, counselors would be able to commit to the entire week of camp as well as two pre-camp trainings; however, accommodations can be made in some instances.
  • Assistant Counselors: entering their freshman year in high school or older, assistant counselors assist the counselor in leading a group of 10-15 children throughout their day at camp keeping their group on schedule, maintaining order, leading small group times, and getting to know their campers. Ideally, assistant counselors would be able to commit to the entire week of camp as well as two pre-camp trainings; however, accommodations can be made in some instances.
  • Camp Nurses: responsible for monitoring children with medical conditions, administering basic first aid, holding medication and epi-pens, and contacting parents if needed. Ideally, multiple nurses would split the week to provide continuous coverage.
  • Activity Station Leaders: responsible for leading the activity each day at their station. Activity stations will be held from mid-morning until mid-afternoon and include games, crafts, tie-dye, and other hands-on activities. Some activity stations will be held every day of camp while other may only be a few days allowing for some flexibility in serving and the ability to serve in several areas. Some daily set up may be required. Involvement in planning for the station is welcomed but not required. Ideally, activity station leaders would be able to commit to one pre-camp training.
  • Media volunteers: set up and take down outdoor/indoor systems used during camp arrival time. In addition, volunteers set up the Worship Center for large group sessions and run AV equipment. Experience running a sound board or ProPresenter is a plus, but not required. Generally, media volunteers are needed at the beginning of the day and again for the afternoon session, allowing for some flexibility in serving and the ability to serve in other areas as well.
  • Photographers: responsible for taking pictures of the camp day. The ability to select the best photos and turn them into a daily slideshow is a plus, but not required.
  • Security volunteers: patrol the hallways, activity areas, and perimeter of the property when kids are outside. The security team watches for safety concerns and helps monitor weather conditions. Ideally, security volunteers would be able to commit to one pre-camp training.
  • Operations volunteers: work behind the scenes to set up areas, deliver supplies, maintain inflatables, give breaks to leaders, prepare items for large group, monitor weather conditions, and jump in where needed. Ideally, operations volunteers would be able to commit to one pre-camp training.
  • Registration volunteers: work each day at camp drop-off to greet campers, ensure registration is complete, put on wristbands, and connect campers to their groups.
  • Worship Team: help to lead large group times. Responsibilities may include facilitating upfront or large group games, participating in skits, and leading worship. Ideally, worship team volunteers would be able to commit to one pre-camp training meeting as well as additional practices on a team level. Worship team members can volunteer in other roles as well.
  • Administration volunteers: work behind the scenes to make sure paperwork in completed, last-minute supplies are purchased, breaks are given to leaders, stations are set up, volunteers are in their places, and jump in where needed. Ideally, administrative volunteers would be able to commit to one pre-camp training.
  • Lunch volunteers: help plan out the meals for Summer B.L.A.S.T. volunteers and Summer Service Day Camp (middle school camp). During the week of camp, lunch volunteers supervise middle-school teams as they prepare lunches and clean up, monitor supplies, and manage getting prep work for the next day to volunteers.
  • Pre-Camp Setup and Prep Work volunteers: complete a variety of tasks including shopping for supplies, making copies, making signs, organizing supplies, preparing crafts, decorating, moving furniture, helping with training meetings, passing out flyers, and more. Many of these tasks will take place in the weeks leading up to camp, as well as the weekend before camp.
  • Tear Down and Clean Up volunteers: primarily work Friday afternoon at the end of camp to clean up and reset the church for the weekend. In addition, volunteers will also be needed after the Friday Family Fun Night to tear down and clean up remaining items.
  • Family Fun Night volunteers: responsible for helping set up for the event after camp on Friday, greeting families, preparing and serving food, and interacting with families.
