This week’s rock solid promise: Jesus is Willing. This promise comes from Mark 1:40-45. Before reading this passage pray that the Holy Spirit would illumine the text and reveal to us what he wants us to learn.
Read Mark 1:40-45.
When I was young, my father taught me to study scripture by asking questions that have specific answers in the text. I have found this to be incredibly helpful because it has led me to focus on what the text is truly saying.
I will share with you some questions I have pulled from the text along with some of the answers found in the text. After you read these, come up with some on your own.
Examples of questions that I came up with:
What is the posture of the man coming to Jesus?
He comes begging on his knees
He comes in desperation
What was Jesus response?
Jesus felt compassion for this man deeply
Jesus touches this man
Jesus heals this man
What questions did you come up with?
This method of Bible study has really helped me sharpen my focus on what is being said and has helped me stay grounded in the text.
I came up with more questions than answers! My answers were more like speculations.
