Rock Solid: Compassion and Healing

Why was healing such a big part of Jesus’ ministry? Have you ever wondered why Jesus healed so many as he preached during his earthly ministry? One reason is that when Jesus saw the sick and afflicted he was filled with compassion. Another reason Jesus healed the sick was to declare that he was the Messiah. Jesus spells this out to John’s disciples in Luke 7:18-23.
Read Luke 7:18-23.
John the Baptist sent his disciples to inquire of Jesus if was the Messiah. Jesus responds by fulfilling the promises of what the Messiah would be like. Jesus visibly displayed who he was by healing the sick, and then explicitly told them the significance of what he was doing. Isaiah pointed the people of Israel to the coming Messiah.
Read Isaiah 35:5-6 and 61:1.
Jesus performed miracles to declare that he was the one to come, the Messiah. Jesus is the one who would save his people from their sins.
Pray that God would open your eyes to who Jesus is and remind you afresh of what he came to do.
Jesus is the Messiah, he came into history and lived a sinless life, Jesus was 100% man and 100 % God, he was born of the Virgin Mary, conceived by the Holy Spirit, he was crucified, he rose from the dead, he ascended into heaven and he is the savior, high priest and advocate to all who believe.
Jesus came to save his people from their sin and he offers this salvation to you. If you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved (Romans 10:9).
