Summer Ministry
Thursday Nights
One way students deepen their roots in the Word of Christ is through our weekly meetings. Each Thursday night at 7 pm, we get together for worship, relevant Bible teaching, group discussion, food, and fellowship at the home of Bill and Judy Bradish. Because we know life comes from “every word that comes from the mouth of God” (Matthew 4:4), our time together centers on this vital aspect of our faith. We study, talk about, and dig deep into the source of all life together.
Our theme for this summer, “Devoted to Christ: Singleness that Glorifies God,” will give us opportunity to consider how Christ’s calling shapes and stabilizes us during a season of life marked by transition. Much of the world views singleness as either a curse to isolation or freedom from commitment. But Scripture views singleness as a season – a calling – to be unreservedly devoted to Christ. This summer, the College Ministry will be discussing how the Christ-exalting truth of the Gospel can be uniquely magnified in the lives of singles devoted to Christ. Beginning with God’s devotion to us, this ten-week series will highlight the meaning of devotion, unpack common struggles related to it, and examine how we can devotion to Christ can transform our relationships, romance, church, and careers.

To understand devotion, we begin with God Himself, who demonstrates the reality of love in His relationship to Christ. In this introductory message, we’ll look at the Father’s connection with the Son and derive principles from it to apply to our own devotion to Christ.
Devoted to Christ: Singleness with Purpose – June 10
When discussing singleness, it’s important to distinguish that our identity does not come from our marital status but from our union with Christ. Singleness is a particular calling for “undivided devotion” to Christ who is our life, and it is a calling that is “for [our] own good” (I Corinthians 7:34-35).
Devotion: A Story – June 17
What does devotion mean? Where do we see it in our culture? How does this virtue benefit Christians? Examining these questions and looking at the life of Jim Elliot, we will glean further insights into how to better devote ourselves to the Lord in spirit and in body.
Devotion When Your Heart’s Divided – June 24
Where devotion to Christ gives our lives purpose and meaning, devotion to anyone or anything else robs us of our joy. In this session, we’ll look at what idolatry is and where idols come from, as well as the benefits of a heart devoted to Christ and the virtue of Christian contentment.
Devotion by Demolition – July 1
Giving devotion to something other than Christ creates a battle in our hearts that twists our focus and purpose. We’ll take a closer look at this battle and see how it can be won.
Devoting Your Body to the Lord – July 8
As believers, our bodies are not our own but God’s. So how does that apply to singleness? Looking at I Corinthians, we’ll discuss the meaning of our bodies being “for the Lord,” and its implications for gender, sex, relationships and worship.
Devoting Your Body to the Lord II: Dealing with Sexual Brokenness – For Men
Devoting Your Body to the Lord II: Dealing with Sexual Brokenness – For Women
Many who long to be devoted to Christ in the present still wrestle with the demons of their past. In this session, we will discuss how to deal with sexual brokenness – moral failure, abuse, and addiction – the road to healing, and joyful devotion to Christ.
Devotion to Christ and Romance – July 22
So you’re single now, but don’t plan on being single forever. Great! But how do you look for love and remain devoted to Christ? How do you find and build love for long-term happiness? And what causes romance to self-destruct and how can you avoid it? This session will answer these questions and more.
Devoted to Christ but Lonely – July 29
Loneliness often accompanies singleness, even for the most committed Christians. So how does Christ sustain those devoted to him in times of loneliness and what has God provided for the comfort and consolation of those struggling with feelings of isolation? How can you create habits that will fill your life with the joy of real fellowship and friendship?
Devotion in Transition – August 5
For most people, their single years are a time of great transition as they try to stand on their own two feet. So what does it mean to be devoted to Christ when your apartment, your job, your dating relationships, and your city could all be completely different a year from now? In this session, we’ll discuss what devotion looks like when it’s on the move.
Koinonia
Named after the Greek word for fellowship, our Koinonia fellowships provide an opportunity for our students to gather together for fellowship and the breaking of bread, just as the early Church did (Acts 2:42). By sitting down to share a meal, we interact with one another and build relationships, enjoying the authentic community created by the Spirit of Christ.
